Remakes, 2009
(acrylic on canvas)
For this series, I created replicas of conceptual artist books and re-purposed them in response to they’re built-in art historical references as well as their physical properties.
Cubed
(acrylic on canvas)
In a serial gesture befitting the source material, CUBE by Sol Lewitt is recreated 6 times and stacked to form a cube.
Mel Bochner, Language 1966-2006
(acrylic on canvas)
A replica of a catalogue of the work of Mel Bochner. The cover is a reproduction of one of his text paintings, which is returned to canvas and partially obstructed with a new layer of text.
Jut
(acrylic on canvas)
A replica of a Donald Judd catalogue that is mounted to the wall to mirror his own wall-mounted structures.
7 Days
(acrylic on canvas)
DAY by Kenneth Goldsmith was recreated 7 times and stacked to make a week. This piece mirrors Goldsmith's own strategies as a writer, who is known for using existing texts and re-contextualizing them to create new meaning.
